The Ventura Film Festival exists as an open genre international film festival that raises awareness for environmental challenges including forest and oceanic conservation and restoration, via a yearly film showcase and corresponding activities. The event capitalizes on the strength of cinema to encourage participation and foster important conversations about these pressing environmental challenges.

The Ventura Film Festival launched in 2004 and has showcased numerous films, usually over 200 films each summer, and has drawn recognition from the global film industry. Notable moments have included featuring distinguished filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA competitor the legendary Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary tribute to West Side Story, which featured welcoming the full Academy Award winning cast from West Side Story, encompassing Academy Award winner/Golden Globe recipient George Chakiris along with Golden Globe winner/Academy Award nominee Russ Tamblyn. These extraordinary guests and events have cemented the festival's status as a first-class destination for commemorating movies and the artists who create it.

The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was invited to join, along with several of Hollywood's premier talents, in the half-century commemoration of West Side Story and Hollywood's legendary footprint/handprint ceremony for Oscar honorees Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and legendary actor Golden Globe winner SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FILM FESTIVAL Russ Tamblyn at the historic Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
